Mechanical Engineering:

Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest branches in Engineering fields. It deals with metals what we studied in class 10th and 12th which is like ferrous, Aluminium, Zinc and much other metal.

The main role of Mechanical engineering you can see in the field of Railway. The Railway and its engine parts are made from Iron (Ferrous).

But Nowadays there is much technology existing in the market which includes several engineering branches like COMPUTER SCIENCE, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, ELECTRICAL, ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC, AERONAUTICAL, AGRICULTURE, MINING, CHEMICAL, CIVIL ENGINEERING. CIVIL, CHEMICAL, AND MINING are also the oldest branch of engineering.

Considering an example the Watch earlier used to made by Mechanical system but as the technology grows now this is made by computer science engineers(Coding) with the help of mechanical engineers. Because it deals with the Mechanics and micro-level study.

Mechanical engineering branches deal with the several machines, Automobile sector, Aircraft and much more.

One of the oldest and hard machines is Lathe Machine.

The uses of lathe machine Metalworking, Woodcutting, Metal spinning and much more.

Mechanical Engineering-Subjects, Book, Career or Job, Syllabus, Courses or Institutes,

The other machine of mechanical engineering includes Milling Machine, Drilling Machine, CNC Machine, NC machine.

The mechanical process includes Heat Treatment process, Hot and Cold Working and more.

Even do The 2, 4-Wheels vehicles we are using for transport purpose are made by mechanical engineers.

The “Tractor” which is used for agriculture are made by Mechanical engineers with the contribution of other branches engineers.

Mechanical Engineering Subjects and Book:

Note: The subject may be changed from place to place but However, In engineering, we must study these subjects.

The First-year will be same subjects of all the engineering students.

Note- Some of the university (Private) in a year if there are more than 4 backlogs having you might not be promoted to next year. You will be dropped 1 year by college / University. So while getting admission to ask them everything like the exam, Failed paper, Fees, placement, Other activities institution and whatever your concern.

Some Core Subjects:

  1. Mechanics of Solid / Strength of Material
  2. Thermodynamics / Thermal
  3. Fluid Mechanics
  4. IC Engine
  5. Material Science
  6. Metrology and Measurement
  7. Automobile
  8. CAD/CAM
  9. Automobile
  10. Power Plant Engineering

Just brief information regarding all these subjects:

Mechanics of Solid / Strength of Material:

It deals with the basic mechanical properties first like (Elasticity, Plasticity, Stress, Strain, Toughness ) which you already studied in class 11th and 12th here it’s in advance. Help to find out the stress strikes on any system. Also helps to find out the Diameter of Pipe cylinder, Hollow, Sphere and much more. This is complete Numerical based subjects.

Thermodynamics / Thermal:

It deals with the Heat and Mass Transfer of a system. This subject helps you to find out the transfer of heat possible from the object as small as possible like example Mobile phone. It also deals with how the Jet engine works.

This is too numerical based subject. In this, you will also learn the cycle completion which is the Diesel cycle, Petrol cycle and much more in very details. There is one more subject IC Engine who covers all this topic in advance.

Fluid Mechanics:

Fluid mechanics deals with the Pump, Turbine Theory and Numerical Problems. In this, we will study the advance parts of the turbine and its efficiency, Pump efficiency and much more.

Material Science:

Material science deals with the Stress, Strain, Mechanical properties, FCC structure of metals and much more in advance.

Metrology and Measurement:

This subject is very interesting. why I am saying interesting because in this we will learn about Vernier caliper (Helps to find material dimension), Gauge, Tachometer, and much more such device will be studying here.

Here you will study all the ignition system, cooling system, Lubrication system in very advance. we also study here the different parts of the car, bike, Tractor in details and much more and this is one of the core subjects of a mechanical stream.

Theory of Machine:

This subject deals with the clutch as you have seen in the vehicles. Cam and follower, Gears, Power Transmission and more.

This is totally computer-based subjects helps you to learn Computer-aided design and Manufacturing. This is also one of the very good subjects. If you having interest in designing you must study this subject hard.

In industry, any machine is made, first made it to CAD than coming to make in real.

Power Plant:

This Subject is also one of the fine subjects. It deals with several power plants like Hydro, Thermal, Nuclear Power plant. As you studied Pump ad Turbine here you can use in very details.

Have you watched Swadesh Movies? In this movie, there is seen of Hydro Power plant which describes how electricity generated with the help of water.

Manufacturing Science Engineering:

It deals all the machine-like lathe, Milling, Drilling for several purposes in daily life. Even do this subject gives you a vast knowledge of Welding in very details.

Mechanical Engineering Career or Job:

The career and Jobs in Mechanical engineering are very wide:

  1. Automobile Sector
    1. Manufacturing of Several Vehicles Parts like Clutch, Gear, Transmission system, Handles, and much more
  2. Aircrafts sector
    1. Same here you can construct the parts of the aircraft as wings.
  3. Production engineering
    1. Use of several machine-like Lathe, Milling, Drilling.
    2. Welding
  4. Power plant Engineers
  5. Railway Engineers and many other services too.

Mechanical Engineering Syllabus:

The syllabus of mechanical engineering are:

The syllabus is very fast as I mentioned all the above subjects.

Here I have mention Overview on it but You must check it onto there university website.

Mechanics of Solid / Strength of MaterialStress and strain at a point – Tension, Compression, Shear Stress – Hooke’s Law – Relationship among elastic constants.

Stress-Strain Diagram for Mild Steel, Concrete – Ultimate Stress – Yield Stress – Factor of Safety – Thermal Stresses

Beams and Bending- Types of loads, supports – Shear Force and Bending Moment Diagrams for a statically determinate beam with concentrated load, UDL, uniformly varying load.

Theory of Simple Bending – Analysis of Beams for Stresses – Stress Distribution at a cross Section due to bending moment and shear force for Cantilever, simply supported and overhanging beams with different loading conditions – Flitched Beams.

Thermodynamics or Thermal EngineeringThe basic concept, Zero Law, First Law, Second law, Properties of Pure substances, Thermodynamic Relation. This is a very fast topic.
Fluid MechanicsBasic fluid Properties, Types of flow, Definition, Pump, Turbine in advance.

Mechanical Engineering Courses or Institutes:

In India, there are multiple engineering colleges available who offering courses for Mechanical engineering.

A few of them are Government Colleges and many colleges are private.

The Government colleges or Institution like

IIT ROORKEE and There are more.

If you thinking to go for admission to such college than you have to give an exam which is JEE MAINS.

The seat is around 10-11 K only.

If your rank comes below 11 K then only you can get admission to such colleges.

Other than that this JEE marks also help you to get admission to the top private colleges like BITS, THAPAR UNIVERSITY, AMITY, and another college too.

Good number competition is there in the market, like every year 9 lakhs around students apply for this exam and

Only 11 k selection for IIT Exam.

You can see a hard competition.

The success rate is 0.0122 % (11000/9 Lakhs) and for one seat you have to beat 82 students, tough competition.

I must say if you have an interest in the mechanical field then start preparing for JEE Mains exam from 11th class only,

listen to toppers interview to make routine,

which books to study and all those,

take the syllabus of JEE Mains read them carefully and also take 10-year question paper read them too to analyze the paper pattern after doing all those things then get coaching start preparation.
